Description:

Purpose – This Document will identify the job that the Packer will perform, and it will outline the correct methods of operation that will ensure safety of the worker and others, while preserving the machine integrity and the product quality and traceability.

Scope – The packer is responsible for checking each packaged unit and packing it into the corresponding carton. The packer ensures only sealed, sound products (bags, jars, sachets) without leaks are packed into the cartons. The following is a list of responsibilities and expectations assigned to the position. Please see the supervisor for any questions.

Personal hygiene and safety are paramount when handling food products and / or packaging. The packer is responsible for always following all the sanitation guidelines and the GMPs during the workday; this includes but it is not limited to wearing a clean uniform t-shirt, long pants and closed shoes, washing and sanitizing hands periodically, not wearing any jewelry, wearing hairnet and/or beard net as applicable in the designated areas, and not eating or drinking outside of designated areas.

The packer is responsible for following the Safety guidelines and for working diligently to help prevent any accident in the facility, and to prevent damage to the product and the equipment.

  • At the start of the shift, bring enough packaging materials to the work area, ensure there are cases, and labels or any other applicable material needed for the product being packaged.
  • Before starting any production, wait for the verification from the QA specialist that the packaging materials are correct. Without the QA specialist confirmation, or in their absence the confirmation from Manager, the production and packing of any products is not allowed to commence.
  • Check with the Quality Specialist the Julian Date for the production day.
  • Check all the units for the code date, make sure it is visible, complete, legible and in the right spot.
  • Check all the units for leaks by squeezing them and checking the seals and the corners for any potential leaks. Discard any leaking units into the reject bin for rework.
  • If there are any discrepancies identified when comparing to the specifications, set the product in the reject bin for rework. If the incident is not isolated, notify the Operator and the Quality Specialist immediately so the machine can be stopped, the cause for the problem identified and corrected, before continuing production.
  • If the quality of the packaged unit is questionable, consult with the Quality Specialist before packing or rejecting the product.
  • Assemble the cases per the instructions. When applicable, label the cases.
  • Pack the good, packaged units into the cartons, according to the specifications. Ensure the correct number of units is packed in each case.
  • Stay in permanent communication with the operator, resolve any issues timely, and make sure the line is always running at the maximum allowed speed according to the product being packaged.
  • Maintain the area clean throughout the day. Pick up any sugar spills promptly. During film / pouch changes or at any downtime, take care of the regular sanitation activities of the area.
  • At the end of the shift, clean the area and leave it ready for the next shift, sweep and clean all the area.
  • Completes other warehouse production duties as needed.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Frequent movements including walking, standing, bending/stooping, urning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements.
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments or extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present.
  • Should the situation arise, complete any additional task assigned by the Supervisor or by the Manager.
  • Packers from other lines are responsible for covering responsibilities of the position in case of the absence of the primary person. Packers, Palletizers and Operators are all cross-trained and can fill in this position in case of absences.

$15.00 per hour.
