As a Crossing Guard your primary duties will be to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians across the streets at our schools. Employees can choose between two hours in the morning and/or two hours in the afternoon. Crossing Guards receive robust training, uniforms and equipment. Job Summary
Under general direction, responsible for monitoring and enforcing traffic control to safely assist pedestrians at crossing areas. The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of pedestrians while crossing the roadways.
Duties & Responsibilities
Job duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the typical tasks performed. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.
- Direct and regulate the flow of traffic so pedestrians can safely cross the street
- Remain alert, monitor traffic flow, and direct traffic at appropriate times using signs and motions
- Report road hazards, traffic problems, and safety concerns
- Interact and assist with pedestrians waiting to cross the street
- Receive and provide training
- Assists with Town special events as needed
- Performs related duties as assigned
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- No prior education or experience is required
- At time of appointment, a Texas Motor Vehicle Class C Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment
Knowledge of:- General traffic safety techniques
- Basic traffic laws and regulations
Ability to: - Learn and understand traffic safety techniques
- Learn, monitor, and enforce Town regulations, policies, and procedures
- React to and handle emergencies in a safe and effective manner
- Maintain order and safety in a crowded and noisy environment
- Perform work in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships
- Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing
Work Environment WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed outdoors, may work in inclement weather and exposed to dust, fumes, and loud noises caused by vehicular traffic. Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and lift and carry up to 30 lbs, while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment. Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations. Must also possess the ability to hear and speak to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio. Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear safety equipment where required. Incumbents typically work during the school year, Monday - Friday, morning and afternoon shifts, and may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
